Q1 '25 Earnings Results & Recap
NVIDIA reported Q1 EPS of $0.81 and revenue of $44 billion, up 69% year-over-year, and anticipates Q2 revenue of $45 billion plus or minus 2%, with a decline in China revenue offset by the Blackwell ramp.
BULLISH
Blackwell ramp drove a 73% year-on-year increase in data center revenue, contributing nearly 70% of data center compute revenue in the quarter.
Major hyperscalers are deploying nearly 1,000 NBL 72 racks (72,000 Blackwell GPUs) per week, with Microsoft ramping to hundreds of thousands of GB200s.
The introduction of GB 200 NBL was a fundamental architectural change to enable data center scale workloads and to achieve the lowest cost per inference token.
BEARISH
New export controls on H20 resulted in a $4.5 billion charge due to inventory write-down and purchase obligations, with $2.5 billion in revenue unrealized in Q1.
Losing access to the China AI accelerator market, estimated to be nearly $50 billion, would have a material adverse impact and benefit foreign competitors.
China data center revenue is expected to decrease meaningfully in Q2 due to H20 export licensing controls.
