United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday that all the objectives of the Iran military operation will be fulfilled "in a matter of weeks." Speaking to ABC, he said that the destruction of the Iranian air force and navy has been "largely achieved," while the administration is "well on its way" toward destroying Iran's missile production capabilities.Rubio said that US President Donald Trump "prefers diplomacy" and that Washington and Tehran are exchanging messages and communicating through various channels, including intermediaries. He declined to comment on Trump's claims that the US is in talks with a "new and more reasonable" regime, stating that there are "some fractures internally" in the Iranian government. "We have to see if these people end up being the ones in charge, seeing if they're the ones that have the power to deliver ... There are clearly people there talking to us in ways that previous people in charge in Iran have not spoken to us in the past," Rubio said.
